Who Are We?
Family Run Knife Sharpeners
Beltrami Sharpening Services are a family run Knife sharpening and hire service. We were established circa 1960 and have been supplying the catering trade in London and surrounding counties since then.
Expertise in one field only is our goal. And that goal is sharp knives for our customers. We know that there are other sharpening/hire services out there that do offer other services along with the knife side of things, and that’s great. But as the old saying goes “we are not a jack of all trades, we are the master of one” that one being knives and knives only.
Beltrami Sharpening Services offer two generations of skill in the cutler trade, skills carefully passed down from father to son, a total of 60 years of experience and professionalism.
1960s
In the Beginning
It started in the early 60’S my father Dario Beltrami trawled the streets of London toting his trade to top chefs, restaurants, and catering establishment offering the best quality sharpening from the back of his old VW van.
His reputation grew and before long he had made name for himself in the catering circles of the capital and the business grew. Friendly, Reliable and Professional were three words my father used a lot back in the day. Words that he lived by when it came to dealing with clients and running his business. It was that ethos that saw him in good stead and an ethos that we continue to this day at B.S.S.
My father was not the only Italian who came to the UK to start a new life, and these guys also went into what was, at the time a booming trade. This is why today many knife sharpening companies are run by second generation Italians.
2020
We Continue That Service
Today things are a little different, London along with other major towns and cities is changing. Independent restaurants are few and far between, and high streets filled with national and international chains, pubs are closing at an alarming rate, and knife sharpening business is now a cut throat trade (excuse the pun) to be in.
So here at B.S.S we like to think that we have kept up with the changes and demands that running small independent business in the big city demands. Technology has played a massive part in how the knives are now sharpened, the “Laundry Service” as it is known within the trade, where we supply the knives and rotate them for sharp ones on a weekly/biweekly or monthly interval, are all integral to ensuring that you get the best knife service to suit yours and your company’s needs.
Change is a massive part of ensuring we can meet the demands and needs of our clients, so we have adapted, we have overcome, but one thing remains the same…..our friendly, reliable and professional service. That will never change.
